NFLPA AGENT DISCIPLINE COMMITTEE SUSPENDS CONTRACT ADVISOR RICKERT’S CERTIFICATION AND ISSUES FINE

On April 9, 2013, the NFLPA Committee on Agent Regulation and Discipline (“CARD”) imposed discipline on John “J.R.” Rickert for committing actions that adversely impact his ability to serve as a Certified Contract Advisor and for being in violation of various provisions of the NFLPA Regulations Governing Contract Advisors (“Regulations”). CARD is appointed pursuant to Section 6A of the Regulations, which can be found here.

Rickert entered into a settlement agreement with another certified contract advisor over the sharing of fees arising from a previous partnership. Rickert failed to make a number of payments on certain dates in accordance with the settlement agreement. When questioned by the National Football League Players Association (“NFLPA”) in late 2012 and early 2013, Rickert assured the NFLPA that payments had been made in accordance with the settlement agreement and that Rickert could provide proof of those payments. Upon the repeated requests of the NFLPA, the promised documentation was not produced and a disciplinary complaint was issued.

Rickert appealed the CARD decision on April 10, 2013, and a hearing was set before Arbitrator Roger Kaplan. Prior to the appeal hearing on June 10, 2013, Rickert agreed to accept a three (3) month suspension and pay $5,000 fine.
