Former NFL Player Now Tackling Childhood Hunger in Virginia

By Liz Kilmer, WAVY

Former NFL player, Greg Scott, has made it his mission to tackle childhood hunger in Virginia.

“We’re glad to be able to put a small dent in it every day,” said Greg Scott, Founder and CEO of the Cover 3 Foundation. “There’s a lot of work left to be done.”

Scott, a Franklin native who played football for Hampton University and later for the NFL, retired in 2007.

Two years later, he launched the nonprofit foundation out of Franklin. 8News sister station WAVY met him at his offices there on Thursday.

“I thought the NFL was going to be my highest pinnacle and to be honest with you — with all due respect to the NFL — it was a stepping stone for what I do now,” he said. “Because really making a difference in some child’s life… goes much further to me than entertaining them on TV.”

NFL to Business Owner: Dane Fletcher Tackles Post-Football Dream

By Angelique Fiske, Lifestyle Editor

When pressed about team chemistry, many football players say their teammates are like brothers, the bond is special, even beyond the scope of the game. After linebacker Dane Fletcher retired at the end of the 2015 season, he found out exactly how true those words were.

Dane opened The Pitt, a training facility in his hometown of Bozeman, Mont., achieving the first phase of his dream for his post-NFL career, and not long after the doors opened, he received words of encouragement from the other side of the country.

The likes of Tom BradyJulian Edelman and Danny Amendola sent videos to congratulate their former teammate. Rob Ninkovich has left comments on The Pitt’s Instagram account, and Dane said he has more videos in the queue of former teammates extending their well wishes.

How to Build a Multi-Million Dollar Business (Without Inventing Anything at All)

By Brian Scudamore, Founder and CEO, O2E Brands

Spoiler alert: most of today's top companies are based on old ideas. Uber is a modern twist on the taxi industry; Airbnb has done the same with hotels. Tesla's electric vehicles are just another incarnation of a centuries-old idea. And yet the founders of these companies are heralded as the most innovative entrepreneurs of our time.

Entrepreneurship is rarely about inventing the next best thing -- it's about innovation, thinking differently about how things work, and asking questions others won't. You don't have to be revolutionary to be successful; you just need to revolutionize the way things are done.
